Breast Cancer Treatment

Breast Cancer :

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women. Approximately 1 lakh new cases of breast cancer are detected every year and accounts for approximately 25% of all new cancers diagnosed and as many as 20% of all cancer deaths known in Indian women. In addition 61% of breast cancer patients are in an age group as young as 35 to 50 years. The primary reason for this is lack of awareness and regular screening - as a direct consequence of which patients are only diagnosed at an advanced stage of disease. As per a WHO report, 61% of breast cancer patients are in stage III or IV of the disease, thereby severely restricting treatment options.

Symptoms:

  • Any of the following unusual changes in the breast can be a symptom of breast cancer.
  • Swelling of all or part of the breast
  • Skin irritation or dimpling
  • Breast pain
  • Nipple pain or the nipple turning inward, redness, scaliness or thickening of the nipple
  • Nipple discharge other than breast milk
  • Lump in the underarm area
